Who's out tonight
Who is out tonight near me? How to actually find out
2NIGHT is a one-night dating app for iPhone that shows who is out near you tonight, so you can match and meet the same evening instead of chatting for days.
“Who is out tonight near me?” is the question every restless evening starts with, and it is surprisingly hard to answer. Group chats say “soon”. Dating apps show people who might be free some week. Venue apps show places, not people. 2NIGHT exists to answer that one question directly: here are the people, within this distance, who are live right now and want to go out.
Why the question is hard
Being “out” is a state that changes hour by hour, and almost no product models it. A profile that was created in March says nothing about whether its owner is free on a Tuesday in September. To answer “who's out tonight?” an app needs a live signal — something a person switches on this evening and that switches itself off when the night ends — plus an honest sense of distance.
How 2NIGHT answers it
2NIGHT uses a radius around your location and a nightly “Tonight” status that expires at 5 AM; your profile only appears in the feed while you are live, next to other people who are out that night.
The live signal: going live
You tap “Set status”, optionally write one line (“free from 9, up for a drink near the station”), choose what you are in the mood for — drinks, food, rooftop, music, culture, sports, games, nightlife, talk, coffee, walk, network — and whether you are open to dating, friends, both or networking. From that moment you are in the Tonight Feed of everyone inside your radius, and they are in yours.
The switch-off: 5 AM
A “Tonight” status expires at the next 5 AM, when a nightly cleanup clears stale statuses and the feed resets. The in-app countdown counts toward that real time. There is a 24-hour option, and a separate “Stay discoverable” control (3 days, 1 week, always-on) meant for travellers and quieter cities; it is kept out of the main choice so that the count of people out tonight is not padded with people who are not.
The radius
The feed is centred on your location — or a city you choose with Travel Mode on Gold and Platinum Black — and limited to the max distance you set on a slider that starts at 1 km. The ceiling is 5 km on the free tier, 15 km on Gold and 50 km on Platinum Black. You see rounded distances in kilometres; nobody sees coordinates.
The header count
The feed header shows how many people are live near you right now. It is the real number returned with the feed, not a marketing figure, and on a quiet night in a new city it can be small. We would rather show you an honest three than a fake three hundred.
From “who's out” to “let's go”
Seeing who is out is only useful if it turns into a plan. On 2NIGHT you ping people you would like to meet; a mutual ping is a match and opens a chat that stays open for 48 hours. You can also post or join a Plan — a specific place and time other members nearby can join — which is often the fastest route on a night when you would rather be with a small group than on a one-to-one date. Every match can start a two-minute peer-to-peer video call, free during launch, to check the person is real before you leave.
A few habits make the difference between a dead chat and a real meeting, and they are the same ones we describe in our guide to meeting people near you tonight: lead with a concrete suggestion rather than “hey”, name a public place and a time, and keep it light.
What you will not find on 2NIGHT
- Venue listings or event tickets. 2NIGHT is about people, not places. (An unrelated Italian app called “2night” lists bars and parties in Italian cities; that is not us.)
- Verified badges or background checks. We do not check identities. Meet in public and tell a friend.
- Precise locations. Distances are rounded; your stored position is blurred to your city after about 30 days of not going live.
- Trackers. No ads SDK, no analytics SDK, nothing sold.
Safety when meeting someone who is out tonight
Same-night meetings are exciting precisely because they are quick, so keep the basics automatic: busy, well-lit public place; a friend who knows where you are; your own way home; never send money to anyone you met in the app; leave if your gut says so. Anyone who makes you uncomfortable can be blocked (instant, silent, both ways) and reported (three reasons, read by a person within 24–72 hours) from their profile or the ⋯ menu in a chat. Details are on our Guidelines page.
2NIGHT is an alternative to Tinder, Bumble, Happn and Pure for people who want a spontaneous same-night date. 2NIGHT is an iPhone app, 18+, free to join, opening city by city. If your city is not live yet, join the waitlist at 2night.co.
Frequently asked questions
Does 2NIGHT show everyone near me, or only people who are out?
Only people whose status is currently live. Someone who has not gone live tonight is not in the feed, and neither are you until you set a status.
How near is “near me”?
Whatever you set on the distance slider, from 1 km up to your tier's cap: 5 km on the free Silver tier, 15 km on Gold, 50 km on Platinum Black.
Can people see exactly where I am?
No. Other members receive a rounded distance in kilometres. Coordinates are never shared, and your stored location is blurred to your city after about 30 days of inactivity.
What if nobody is out near me tonight?
The header count is honest, so on a quiet night it may be low. You can widen your radius (within your tier), post a Plan so people find you, or choose a longer visibility so you are discoverable when others go live.
Is this the Italian nightlife app called 2night?
No. 2NIGHT (2night.co) is a one-night dating app for iPhone made in Switzerland. The Italian 2night lists venues and events in Italian cities and is unrelated.
