Dating app for tonight
A dating app for tonight — not for “sometime next week”
2NIGHT is a one-night dating app for iPhone that shows who is out near you tonight, so you can match and meet the same evening instead of chatting for days.
Most dating apps are built around a slow funnel: swipe for a week, match, exchange messages for a few days, then try to find a free evening that suits two calendars. If what you actually want is a drink with someone new this evening, that funnel is the wrong shape. This page explains what a dating app for tonight has to do differently, and how 2NIGHT does it.
What “for tonight” means in practice
A tonight-first app needs three things a classic swipe app does not have. First, a notion of time: everyone you see has to be free in the same window you are, otherwise you are back to “maybe Thursday?”. Second, a notion of distance that is real: a match 40 km away is not a plan for tonight, it is a plan for a weekend. Third, a way to say what kind of night you want before anyone types “hey”.
2NIGHT is designed around exactly those three things. You go live with a one-line status (“free after 8, drinks and live music”), pick from categories such as drinks, food, rooftop, music, culture, sports, games, nightlife, talk, coffee or a walk, and say whether you are open to dating, meeting friends, or both. Then the Tonight Feed shows the other people who are live within your radius.
The nightly window
2NIGHT uses a radius around your location and a nightly “Tonight” status that expires at 5 AM; your profile only appears in the feed while you are live, next to other people who are out that night.
The default status is Tonight. It ends at the next 5 AM, when the nightly reset clears every stale status and the feed starts again. There is no timer invented for marketing: the countdown in the app counts toward that real deadline, and only shows a “closing soon” cue in the last three hours before 5 AM. If you would rather stay visible longer, you can choose 24 hours, or open a separate “Stay discoverable” control for 3 days, 1 week or always-on — those options exist for quieter cities and for travellers, and they are deliberately kept out of the main picker so the “who's out tonight” count stays honest.
Until you set a status you are invisible. You can still open the feed, but a banner reminds you that nobody can see you until you go live. One tap on “Hide me” takes you out of every feed immediately.
Radius: from your street to the whole city
Distance is the second half of a same-night plan. In the filter sheet you set a maximum distance with a slider that starts at 1 km. How far it can reach depends on your membership: the free Silver tier sees people within 5 km, Gold extends that to 15 km, and Platinum Black opens it to 50 km. Other members never see your coordinates — the feed only returns a rounded distance in kilometres — and if you have not been live for about 30 days, your stored position is blurred to your city.
Ping, match, meet
Swipe up (or tap the button) to ping someone; swipe down to pass. If they ping you back, it is a match and a chat opens. Free members get a nightly allowance of pings; Gold and Platinum Black members ping without limits. A match chat stays open for 48 hours — long enough to agree on a bar and a time, short enough that it does not turn into a pen-pal relationship. Gold and Platinum Black can relaunch an expired conversation; Silver members simply match again another night.
Two more tools help turn a match into a meeting. A Plan is a public “I'm going to X at Y, join me” that other members nearby can join, and it is the fastest way to get a small group together when a one-to-one drink feels like too much pressure. And every match can start a two-minute video call — peer-to-peer, never passing through our servers — which is a quick, low-commitment way to check that the person is who their photos say before you head out. Video calls are free for everyone during the launch period.
What 2NIGHT does not do
Honesty matters more than a feature list on a page like this. 2NIGHT does not run background or identity checks and has no photo-verification badge; meeting in a public place, telling a friend where you are, and trusting your gut are still your real safety system. Nobody at 2NIGHT reads your chats, and the app does not scan messages for abusive language — which is exactly why the report button matters. You can report or block anyone from their profile or from the ⋯ menu in a chat; a block is instant, silent and works both ways, and every report is read by a person, usually within 24 hours and always within 72.
2NIGHT is also strictly 18+ (the age selector starts at 18), it runs on iPhone only, and it is opening city by city. If it is not live where you are yet, the waitlist at 2night.co is the way in.
Who a tonight-first app is for
- People who decide at 7 pm that they would like company, and want an answer by 8.
- Anyone tired of week-long chats that never become a date.
- Newcomers to a city who do not yet have a circle to go out with.
- Travellers with one free evening somewhere new (see 2NIGHT for travelers).
2NIGHT is an alternative to Tinder, Bumble, Happn and Pure for people who want a spontaneous same-night date. If you want a slower, profile-heavy search for a long-term partner, a traditional app is a perfectly good tool — our comparison of the best apps to meet people tonight is honest about where each one fits.
Frequently asked questions
Is 2NIGHT really for the same night?
Yes. Your status defaults to “Tonight” and expires at 5 AM, the feed only shows people who are currently live, and match chats close after 48 hours, so everything points toward meeting this evening rather than chatting for a week.
Do I have to be out already to use it?
No. You go live from wherever you are — your sofa counts — and set a radius. What you see is other people who are also live tonight within that distance.
Is 2NIGHT free?
Joining and meeting people is free (the Silver tier: 5 km radius, a nightly allowance of pings). Paid Gold and Platinum Black memberships add unlimited pings, a wider radius and other perks; prices are shown in the app before anything is charged, and billing is handled by Apple.
Is it on Android?
No. 2NIGHT is an iPhone app. There is no Android build and no Google Play listing.
Does 2NIGHT verify profiles?
No. There is no identity check, no background check and no verification badge. Use the two-minute video call, meet in public and tell a friend your plans.
