How each one uses location
Happn keeps location running in the background and logs an encounter whenever another Happn user comes within roughly 250 metres of you. Those people appear on your timeline, with a count of how many times you crossed and roughly where. Like someone; if they like you back it is a “Crush” and you can chat. There is no time limit on the timeline or the chat.
2NIGHT reads your location only while you are live, at roughly kilometre accuracy. 2NIGHT uses a radius around your location and a nightly “Tonight” status that expires at 5 AM; your profile only appears in the feed while you are live, next to other people who are out that night. The distance is set by you on a slider from 1 km up to your tier's cap (5 km free, 15 km Gold, 50 km Platinum Black), and other members see only a rounded distance in kilometres. Gold and Platinum Black can also re-centre the feed on any city with Travel Mode.
