Spontaneous dating
The spontaneous dating app: decide at 7 pm, meet by 9
2NIGHT is a one-night dating app for iPhone that shows who is out near you tonight, so you can match and meet the same evening instead of chatting for days.
“Spontaneous” is a word every dating app likes to use and almost none are built for. Spontaneity needs two people to be free at the same moment, close enough to reach each other, and clear about what they want to do. A swipe deck of everyone in a 100-mile region who might be free some day cannot give you that. 2NIGHT was built to.
Why most apps kill spontaneity
The classic model separates matching from meeting by days. You match on Monday, the conversation drifts, and by the time someone suggests a place the momentum is gone. Research on choice overload aside, the practical problem is simpler: nothing in the product knows whether either of you is free right now. Availability is negotiated by hand, in chat, and that is where most plans die.
A spontaneous dating app has to make availability a first-class piece of data. On 2NIGHT it is the whole product: you are either live tonight or you are not in the feed.
How 2NIGHT makes spontaneity the default
2NIGHT uses a radius around your location and a nightly “Tonight” status that expires at 5 AM; your profile only appears in the feed while you are live, next to other people who are out that night.
1. A status instead of a profile essay
Going live is one tap plus an optional line of text. You pick what you are up for from a short list — drinks, food, rooftop, music, culture, sports, games, nightlife, talk, coffee, walk, network — and whether you are open to dating, friends, or both. Your bio is capped at 150 characters and you can add up to six photos. The point is to be quick to read at 7 pm, not to be a résumé.
2. A feed that only shows people who are out
The Tonight Feed is filtered by the server on two things: whether a status is still valid (its “available until” time is in the future) and whether the person is inside your chosen distance. A “Tonight” status expires at the next 5 AM. There is a 24-hour option, and a separately labelled “Stay discoverable” section with 3-day, 1-week and always-on choices for people in quieter cities or on the road; those are kept out of the main picker on purpose so the count of people out tonight is not inflated.
3. A radius you actually control
The filter sheet has a max-distance slider that starts at 1 km. The ceiling depends on your tier: 5 km on the free Silver tier, 15 km on Gold, 50 km on Platinum Black. Nobody sees your exact location — the feed hands other members a rounded distance in kilometres, nothing more.
4. Ping, match, 48-hour chat
Ping someone you would like to meet; if they ping back, it is a match and a chat opens. Chats close after 48 hours, which is a feature rather than a limitation: it keeps the conversation pointed at a place and a time. Gold and Platinum Black members can relaunch an expired chat and ping without limits; Silver members have a nightly allowance of pings.
5. Plans, for when one-to-one feels like too much
Anyone can post a Plan — “rooftop bar on Rue X, 9 pm, come along” — and nearby members can join. Free members can have one active plan at a time. A plan is the lowest-pressure way to be spontaneous: you are not asking one person for a date, you are telling the neighbourhood where you will be.
6. A two-minute video call before you leave the house
From any match you can start a two-minute video call, peer-to-peer over WebRTC (we never hold the call). It is the fastest honest check that a person is who their photos say, and it is free for everyone during launch.
Spontaneous does not mean careless
2NIGHT does not run background or identity checks and has no verification badge, so the usual rules apply harder, not softer: meet in a busy public place, tell a friend who you are meeting and where, keep your own way home, and leave the moment something feels off. You can block and report anyone from their profile or from the ⋯ menu in a chat. Blocking is instant, silent and mutual; reports are read by a person, with action normally within 24 hours and always within 72. The full procedure is on our Guidelines page.
Privacy is part of that promise. There is no ads SDK, no analytics SDK and no tracking in the app. We do not sell data. Precise location is used only while you are live and, after about 30 days without going live, your stored position is blurred to your city. Your “who you want to see” preference is stored only if you give explicit consent and is never shown to anyone.
Who it is for — and who it is not for
2NIGHT is an alternative to Tinder, Bumble, Happn and Pure for people who want a spontaneous same-night date. If you are patiently looking for a long-term partner and prefer detailed profiles and prompts, a traditional app is a better fit, and we say so in our honest comparison of tonight-focused apps. If you are free this evening and would like to meet someone real before it ends, 2NIGHT is built for that impulse.
2NIGHT is an iPhone app, strictly 18+, free to join, and opening city by city. Join the waitlist at 2night.co to be told the moment it is live near you.
Frequently asked questions
What makes 2NIGHT a spontaneous dating app rather than a normal one?
Availability is built into the product: you only appear in the feed while you are live, the default status ends at 5 AM, the feed is filtered by a radius you set, and chats close after 48 hours. Everything nudges toward meeting tonight.
Can I use it for friends, not only dates?
Yes. When you go live you choose whether you are open to dating, friends, both, or networking, and Plans are open gatherings anyone nearby can join.
How far away are the people I see?
As far as your slider allows: 1 km up to 5 km on the free tier, up to 15 km on Gold and up to 50 km on Platinum Black. You see a rounded distance, never an address.
What happens when a chat expires?
After 48 hours the conversation closes. Gold and Platinum Black members can relaunch it; Silver members can match again another night.
Is there a verification badge?
No. 2NIGHT does not verify identity or photos. The two-minute video call, meeting in public and telling a friend are the honest substitutes.
